A One Off isn't a Bad Thing
Slightly irregular, not in line with the rest, not fitting the mold; these are statements which considered to be telling that a person is not quite right. In a world that seems to be in contradiction to what is "right" and what "fits in", it's kind of hard to know if what you are doing is what is expected and will bring rewards.
There is one view that is looking for someone who is not like the rest. Someone who not only thinks outside the box, but works outside of it as well. This person can see what those around them can't. They also can resolve an issue simply because they see everything with a different lens. Is this good or bad? It's hard to say. It all depends on workplace environment.
There is another view which seems to cherish those who come in blend right in. They understand and execute the processes that have always been in just the way they have always been done. This person can see what everyone is seeing and agree with amazing joy they are able to see it. Is this good or bad? It's hard to say. It all depends on the workplace.
There is The BEST view which applauds someone for being themselves. For understanding the nature of the work and knowing what is needed. For being able to see things from a different lens with an understanding of when the way it has "always been done" works just fine. Knowing when the moment arrives to step against the grain of the room, office or team and say what needs to be said and do what needs to be done. Is this good or bad? It is neither, instead I say it's The BEST. This person brings so much to the work environment they are just as valuable as the product being made or sold or envisioned.
Don't be afraid you won't succeed if you're not following the path of "the others" or that has been followed for years before. You will succeed due to be diligent, focused and above all hardworking giving 100% of what you know to any project you are given. THIS is Good for you, Bad for those who can't keep up.
