It's Back to School!

August means it's time to get ready to go back to school. Kids all over the country are picking out new backpacks, binders, folders, pens & pencils, a lunch tote and maybe even some new sneakers. For businesses, they are preparing end of fiscal numbers preparing for the new fiscal year coming. Businesses are looking at what worked, what didn't work, what are the goals going forward and where will the new innovation come from. I won't even talk about Post-COVID19 since as you have all seen business still keeps doing business one way or another. What about you? What are you doing to prepare for the new School Year/Fiscal 2021?

There is so much busyness on line. Everyone has an opinion of what the new fiscal for business will look like, which skills will be needed which skills are going by the wayside. Truth is though, it's all speculation. You've been watching over the last 7 months just like the "experts" have. You know just as much about what tomorrow will bring as they do. Here is what I know, "Knowledge is Power".

Take out a piece of paper and list out what you know. Write down the profession specific skills you've built. Write down the soft skills, stuff you can't learn in a class, but you're really good at. Now, take a clear look at the list. Based on what you see what are you missing? What additional skill will you need to take you to the next level? There are a lot of courses being offered on-line for free. The library isn't fully open, but you can reserve items online for curb side pick-up. There are a lot of meet-up groups full of skilled people looking for someone to share their knowledge with.

No, I'm not a fortune teller. I can't tell you what the next fiscal year will bring. Truth is no one can. We are in uncharted waters. The only thing to do in times like these is to stay prepared. Get yourself a new school binder and a pack of loose leaf paper and start learning!
